OSSWA Award Criteria

Nominations must be submitted on the nomination form with one (1) letter of reference. The Awards Chairperson/Committee must receive nominations no later than the deadline date (March 16, 2007). Nominations received after this date will not be accepted. The Awards Chairperson will notify award recipients and school district/employer contacts. The awards will be presented at the annual OSSWA spring conference.

*Previous Ohio School Social Worker of the Year award recipients are not eligible.

Ohio School Social Worker of the Year nominee must:

  • Be a practicing School Social Worker with a minimum of 2 years employment in a school setting.
  • Have a master’s degree in social work and have certification and/or licensure as a School Social Worker by the Ohio Department of Education. Licensure (LSW or LISW) by the Ohio Counselor and Social Work Board is preferred.
  • Have developed and implemented significant, innovative School Social Work practices.
  • Have made a significant contribution to the practice of School Social Work (i.e. through professional presentation, publication, recognition/honors or as a university field instructor/teacher).
  • Be an active member of OSSWA

Friend of School Social Work nominee:

  • May be a former School Social Worker who has not practiced in the school setting for at least 1 year.
  • May be a non-School Social Worker, i.e. community activist, politician, etc.
  • Demonstrates advocacy and outstanding support for the mission of School Social Work and its affiliated organizations to facilitate the education of children.
